Supermarket Shocker

While at the supermarket that I use to do my main weekly grocery shopping, I came across a publicity campaign by the margarine/butter (-Is there a difference?) manufacturing company, Flora. Flora are currently carrying out blood cholesterol tests to members of the public who were willing to shed some blood for a free cholesterol test.

I put myself forward for the test; it took the pharmacist about 10 minutes just to setup the equipment etc. This told me that I had to be the first shopper of the day who wanted to have this test done, and it was past 12 noon i.e. 4 hours since the supermarket was open!! He told me that the piece of equipment used to analyse the blood was displaying that it was too cold to start up correctly to start analysing blood, so he had to warm it up with his hands.
Once temperature was ok for the piece of equipment, he took out this thing that would pierce the tip of my finger so that enough blood could be collected for the machine. Let me tell you in about three minutes there was evidence of my blood everywhere. What went through my mind was: will he bother clearing up the blood before the next member of the public came forward for the test. What if I have something infectious like hepatitis B etc? Maybe this sort of test should be done only in hospitals and clinics only. The pharmacist commented saying that he will have to do a lot of cleaning and clearing up after I was gone because of all my blood. This reassured and reminded me that this is a professional doing his job properly, and gave me the confidence to come back again in the future if they were to carry out this FREE test again.
The pharmacist used what looked like a very tiny pipette to draw collect enough blood for the blood analysis machine, which then took another two to three minutes to give out my results.
The results came back as follows: 5.69, 1.04, and 4.67.

He told me that my cholesterol was high!!!

To be continued  tomorrow…
