Contains a Source of Phenylalanine

Contains a Source of Phenylalanine ~ Aspartame is amongst a group of chemicals that if is part of a food product’s ingredients then the label must contain the words ‘Contains a Source of Phenylalanine’ as required by the UK’s Food Standard Agency.

Why does the Food Standard Agency insist on this?
Well it could be because of its initial testing indicated that it had caused cancer in rats, and that it could cause cancer (brain cancer) in humans too.

In my opinion, the phrasing should be changed, as it currently sounds as if could be a good thing, take for example, a product advertising the fact it has vitamin C or even calcium:

Contains a source of Vitamin C

Contains a source of Calcium
