Acai Berry Now Out and Maqui Berry in Fashion!

The latest in the line of the ‘super fruits’ that will zap pounds off your wallet but the claims are it will take pounds of your weight.

The spin doctors are even coming up with terms/jargon for its qualities such as the ORAC rating (for you and me this is the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). Maqui berry has about double (ORAC rating) that found in Acai berry. Now the websites that are selling this fruit at over inflated prices are saying that the antioxidants that it contains (still with ORAC) will help you lose a lot of weight with some websites saying there are cases were people have lost 20 lbs (pounds) in a month.

The Facts: Antioxidants do not help you lose weight in the way that the websites are claiming. What they do is help get rid of free-radicals from your body (which is a constant battle). Free radicals are thought to be responsible cause of some or all cancers.

The Acai Berry and the Free Trial Online Scam

Not all Acai berry sellers are scammers (but I cannot find one that isn’t!).
Let’s see how the scammers work:

Unsuspecting online visitor signs up for a free 14 day trial of Acai berry tablets usually from the USA. All you do is pay for the postage and packaging costing somewhere between £2 to £3 (about US$ 3 to US$ 4).
Innocent online visitor happy fills in credit card form overlooks the usual terms and conditions and the vital small print.
The package arrives with the Acai berry tablets.
Unsuspecting buyer (unsuspecting online visitor) looks at his credit card statement to find amount close to US$100 taken from their credit card and another smaller amount to a totally different website.

Annoyed customer (Unsuspecting buyer) goes to the initial website to find anyway of cancelling the reoccurring credit card deductions, to find no valid phone number that works.

Highly irate person (annoyed customer) now contacts credit card company to see if there can do anything about this. Credit card company says that you need to contact the seller to cancel.

Infuriated person (highly irate person) does not know what to do after being scammed and finds no option but to place a temporary block on the credit card which causes so much of an inconvenience for him.

After all this completely stressed out person realises that this he has actually increased at least one of the factors that causes cardiac arrest (particularly a heart attack) and that factor is stress.

Bottom line is eating a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables will help you lose weight and there taking Acai berries is no shortcut.
When it comes to the tablet form of Acai berries, you can never be sure about the purity and just like the makeup of soft and hard illegal drugs available on the streets online businesses are largely unregulated or hard to enforce trading laws and this gets worse with cross border/ county transactions where each country adjudicate on the company based in another country. It is hard to believe that I am taking about western countries that have brilliant communicative infrastructures within themselves.

For now a quick way to check if the website company is fraudulent or not, is to try telephoning the number on their site to see if you can get through. Remember this is not a full proof test.
