Google will have a Universal Translator in a Few Years Time

Google’s head of translation, Franz Och, has said in an interview with the Daily Mail that “speech-to-speech translation should be possible and work reasonably well in a few years’ time”.

There is already a foray of online translation programs on the web, with some being better than others. They can be useful when emailing or writing letters to people in different countries. If Google comes out with the technology that you install on your mobile and it can translate different languages on the fly, then that could mean great opportunity for businesses and consumers.

This would also bring to life StarTrek universal translator, but I guess that the universal translator is a technology that we will not see any time soon but is inevitable in that our technological progress will get us there.

Stop Automatic Data Connection on a Windows Mobile 6.5

If you have used the software utility ‘No Data’ before Windows Mobile 6.5, and found that the brilliant and small piece of software does not work on the latest version of Windows, then don’t despair, here’s what you can do:

1)      download CeRegistryEditor;

2)      install on your PC;

3)      connect you PPC via ActiveSync ;

4)      go to the registry key ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers’

5)      find the key name ‘WakeOnIncoming’ and change ‘Data’ to ‘0’ from multiple value (GPRS and/or CSD );

6)      go to the registry key ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings’

7)      find the key name ‘SuspendResume’  and change ‘Data’ to ‘0’ from multiple value (~GPRS! and/or ~CSD! );

8)      Done!

That should now stop your PDA/MDA from switching to GPRS when you don’t want it to.

Notes: you will not be able to use GPRS unless you specify select it in communication manager!
